A.I.B. is the organization that conducts Bushwick Open Studios. There are over 400 artists in the "Making History" show. The opening reception is this Sunday. The info is on the image attached and the URL for the show is artsinbushwick.org/benefit/ I will also be exhibiting my artwork at my studio/loft during Bushwick Open Studios, which is June 5th, 6th, and 7th. I will post more specific info about that in the near future. I will be having a reception at my place the evening of June 6th for B.O.S., and I will be showing at least 25 paintings of mine that weekend. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009438 199009438 4/14/15 New painting "The Horror, The Horror" 10 x 10 inches, acrylic on 1 inch deep wood panel, 2015, $175 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009377 199009377 4/15/15 New painting "Iridescent Fields" 10 x 10 inches, acrylic on 1.5 inch deep cradled wood panel, 2015, $175 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009594 199009594 4/12/15 Good dude, and an excellent artist, Steiner on a warehouse entrance gate in Brooklyn. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009437 199009437 4/16/15 New painting "Start Today" 30 x 30 inches, acrylic on 1.5 inch deep cradled wood panel, 2015, $800 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009602 199009602 4/17/15 Thank to everybody who is participating in this visual diary project. I really appreciate your support, and hopefully you enjoy at least some of the pics. I am going to keep the project going as I enjoy doing it and it has helped me to look at things that inspire my painting from a different perspective. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010106 199010106 4/19/15 Painted metal figurative sculpture at an auto body shop on Flushing Ave. in Brooklyn. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199009993 199009993 4/20/15 So it was packed at the "Making History" group art show opening yesterday. In the pic titled "MH1", that is me with my piece in the show (the red painting, titled 'Swamp Thing'). The pic titled "MH2" is the secondary room at the gallery with my friends, artists Kristy Elena and Taylor Bowen pictured in the bottom middle. The pic titled "MH3" is the main gallery room, which is where my painting is hung. Over 400 artists displaying some great artwork, a good turnout, and being able to hang out with some friends at least for a little bit made it a fun event. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010124 199010124 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010023 199010023 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010139 199010139 4/21/15 pretty cool installation of samurai armor, and a painted screen currently at Christie's. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010141 199010141 4/22/15 So my friend and fellow artist Taylor Bowen (aka Haus Riot) gifted me this awesome painting of his. Not only is it an excellent example of his amazing artwork, but it is the first painted shaped wood panel that he did! He also does a great art project called free art Fridays, where he takes small pieces of artwork he has made and leaves them in different areas of NYC for people to discover and take home with them. Artwork of his will be in a group art show coming up April 29th and 30th at PopUp Gallery in downtown NYC. More info is on their website, www.popupgallery.nyc also you can check out more of his work at www.hausriot.com https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010393 199010393 4/23/15 On the set with artwork being video-taped at Christie's this evening. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010395 199010395 4/24/15 New painting of mine, Jammy Jam #19 "Brain Confusion" 8 x 8 inches, acrylic on 1 inch deep wood panel, 2015, $100 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010398 199010398 4/25/15 This is a painting by one of my favorites Jean Dubuffet titled "Wall with Inscriptions" 40 x 30 inches, oil on canvas, 1945. The piece was exhibited in the recent Dubuffet show at MoMA. I think it is an important painting because not only does it express Dubuffet's fascination with what many may have considered "every day life" or "mundane" subject matter, but I also think it reveals where Dubuffet may have drawn from some of his aesthetic inspiration. Most importantly I think it reveals how Dubuffet was an artist ahead of his time as this piece could easily be displayed amidst a young street art/graffiti art show today. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010423 199010423 4/26/15 Razor wire phantoms in Brooklyn. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010424 199010424 4/27/15 Bird houses in Brooklyn, in the tree outside my apartment. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010740 199010740 4/28/15 New painting of mine, Jammy Jam #20 "Cool Under Pressure' 8 x 8 inches, acrylic on 1 inch deep wood panel, 2015, $100 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199010764 199010764 4/29/15 Pictures of my friends' artwork at the popupgallery.nyc opening tonight. All of these are some of my favorites in the sales I work on. The other thing I love about my job is the people. My intent for taking the photo is a possible future reference for one of my cityscape paintings. Part of my process is painting abstracted images from memory and photo references, especially specific locations like this one. I have always wondered what the abandoned, trackless, train trestles are to the left in the image, and decided to research it. They once served as an elevated upper level track to the BMT line in Brooklyn. It was built in 1889 and put out of service in 1969. The location is the Myrtle/Broadway stop on the J/M/Z MTA New York subway lines. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199054415 199054415 5/5/15 New painting of mine "Myrtle/Broadway Motorcycle Boogie" 10 x 10 inches, acrylic on 1 inch deep wood panel, 2015, $175 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199054420 199054420 5/6/15 My studio assistant Iggy has not been gessoing many panels for me lately. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199054433 199054433 5/7/15 New painting of mine, Jammy Jam #23 "Come With Me To The Sea" 8 x 8 inches, acrylic on 1 inch deep wood panel, 2015, $100 https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199054434 199054434 5/8/15 The simple things in Brooklyn. Painting aesthetic reference #3,563,204. I was thinking about the painter Richard Diebenkorn's reference to shadows cast by the windows in his studio that he used in some of his paintings. I was also thinking of the 3-D that graffiti writers put on their letters to give depth to the form through modeling. https://joe-egan-com.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=199054496 199054496 5/10/15 This image of a mother swan and her cygnets I photographed in Merrion Square Park in Dublin, Ireland last Summer.
